Two Piece Swimsuits Guide
It may come as a surprise to learn that two piece swimsuits have been around for a long time. The ancient Greeks and Roman women wore them during athletic endeavors such as gymnastics as well as for swimming. Ancient frescos in Pompeii show women in two piece outfits as well as on statues of Venus found in the ruins.
The two piece suit went underground for many decades as social codes of conduct became repressed. It was not until the emergence of women’s rights that the two-piece or bikini came back into fashion.
Two piece swimsuits were first designed by Louis Reard in 1946 soon after the first atomic bomb was inflicted upon the remote Bikini Atoll in the South Pacific. He decided to name his very cute swimsuit design after the nuclear bomb, because he knew it would be a big sensation. He was right.
The first bikinis really caught on in Europe and especially in France. The women in European countries had fewer inhibitions than in puritanical countries such as the United States of America. In the United States at the time, women were very prissy, with the exception of the radical fringe.
Bikinis caught on like wildfire after the French sex kitten actress Bridget Bardot was photographed in a tiny version of the design. Suddenly, young women all over the world adopted two piece swimsuits and made them a common sight on the beaches and at swimming pools. A popular song of the era was played on transistor radios that summer, “She wore an itsy bitsy teeny weenie yellow polka dot bikini” was the anthem of a whole new generation of American girls.
In Brazil, the bikini became the national costume for the beauties of that country. With the advent of ever smaller bikinis, the Brazilian bikini wax became a part of women’s good grooming practices. Once a rare thing to find, wax parlors have sprung up even in the smallest towns. Many of today’s young men have never seen a woman’s pubic hair as a result, and are shocked to see a woman “au natural” .Today, two piece swimsuits are smaller than ever, so grooming and exercising are even more important than ever before.
Older women who have begun to loose their figures still wear a version of the bikini, called the Tankini. This two piece suit has as its top a long tube attached to the bra part that covers up unsightly flab and stretch marks. In polite company this tube can be rolled over the offensive body parts, then, when the coast is clear, a woman can roll the covering up to get some sun tan on her stomach.
Styles, colors, fabrics and the cut of the two piece suit vary wildly. It is possible to have a bikini made to order just for your own body. The extra expense is worth the effort, since custom two piece swimsuits will fit you perfectly and there will be less chances of “wardrobe malfunction”.
